More efforts invested in the native plant protection in North China

  The botanical garden of Institute of botany, Chinese academy of sciences (IBCAS) initiated a meeting on May 18 for the inventory and protection of native plants in North China. Dr. Zhu Renbin from CUBG Secretariat attended to introduce the main task of CUBG.

  The Development of CUBG Program (2016-2018) consist of three projects, which are Full Coverage Protection Plan of Native plants, Construction of Botanical Garden’s National Standard and Capacity Building. As a vital area, the botanical garden of IBCAS undertakes the task for the full-scale protection in North China.

  More than ten experienced phytotaxonomists were invited to have an assessment for the conservation status of all native plant species in Northern China, which were divided separately into three areas- Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, Shanxi Province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. After careful consideration, the numbers of the category are changed from 6 to 7. According to this new category, the panel of the experts sorted out an new inventory of the native plants in Northern China, which provided the important scientific basis for the protection.

  The team then will according to this list continue the following field survey and relevant scientific research.
