A documentary about Parakmeria omeiensis Cheng, telecast recently on CCTV 10, has aroused public concern about the mysterious plants in China.

Parakmeria omeiensis Cheng, a critically endangered species endemic in Mount Emei in Sichuan Province, live very few in the field because of breeding problem. It has become the first national protection species and plant species with extremely small populations.

This documentary invited Prof. Li Cehong, expert in Emei Mountain Botanical Garden, to introduce the information of Parakmeria omeiensis Cheng in detail.

Researchers from Emei Mountain Botanical Garden have spent years to solve the technical difficulties of artificial breeding. “Now we have bred more than 1400 seedlings, among which 123 have been in the wild.” Li said.

Their protection have funded by Technological Office of Sichuan, Sichuan Forestry Department and Botanic Gardens Conservation International. Li hoped in their effort Parakmeria omeiensis Cheng could get rid of the extinction.
